Monday Miles: Terror on the Golf Course

4:00 miles
35:56 min
8:59/Mile avg

9:28/8:55/8:47/8:47

Ran on my own today, but turned out to be for the best because there was some nut job out in the street screaming racial slurs at 6:30 in the morning, and I would have had to run past him to meet up with Jennifer.  I turned around from that scene and run in my own neighborhood this morning but was thrown off by the whole incident.  That, and watching Taken last night and reading The Girl Who Played with Fire pretty much has me thinking of being kidnapped.   Yeah for running scared!

Good luck to Monica who is running the Cap-Tex-Tri today!

Saturday Long Run: Pre-BBQ Eating

7.00mi
1:05:51
9:24/mile average

Mile 1: 9:19
Mile 2: 9:11
Mile 3: 9:16
Mile 4: 9:20
Mile 5: 9:45 (slowing down)
Mile 6: 9:42
Mile 7: 9:17

Ran with Jennifer and felt pretty good until mile 5 when we were running up hill and into the wind, the heat and humidity were a drag.  Goal was to run at least an hour, so that was accomplished.

Ran with Jennifer this morning and got in a great run.  More importantly we talked the whole time and I could get out all my complaints about work stress.  I feel much better today than I did yesterday!

Thanks Selfish Mommy!

Wednesday Workout: Elliptical

At 4:20 it was thunder storming, by 5:10 it appeared to be done by there was some lightning still flashing and a chance of hail.  Rather than run outside I did the elliptical.  This is not my favorite activity, but man alive I'm sweating bullets.  I listed to Jillian Michaels' podcast which was pretty interesting.

Distance: 1.65
Time: 45:00
Difficulty: 7/10
Calories: 747 (according to the elliptical, so that's questionable)

Abs: 10 minutes

Race Plans

Get out your calendars and check books.  The 'fun' racing season is over now that it is hotter than tamales here.  But it's too early to start marathon training, especially since I don't know when I'm running a marathon.  This is my current race plan:

Moonlight Margarita 5k 6/16/11 - signed up to run with the Selfish Mommy.  We're not doing the dinner, but I think we need to stop at Taco Cabana on the way home for a pitcher.  This will start my vacation weekend when John and I go to Baltimore for wee-baby Jake's baptism.

Nelson 5k 7/4/11 - Georgetown race with those damn fast Georgetown runners.  But good course and a nice way to end the holiday weekend.

Caleb 5k 7/16/11 - Wells Branch area in Austin.  I ran this one last year and like that it is north but I did not like that they award Male and Female in the same division, mostly because I waited for an hour for the award ceremony last year (while John got very pissed off at me) and then got beat out by the guys.  So this one is a maybe/probably not.

Casa Super Hero Run 9/25/11 - at the Domain and a really fun race.  There were lots of supers last year.

IBM Uptown Classic 10k 10/2/11 - ramping up the mileage

Pflugerville Pfamily Pfun Run at Lake Pflugerville 10/15 - local 5k race, also the same weekend as the LiveStrong Challenge.  This race will have a $10 kids K, and may be Jack and Maddy's first race (can't pass up the price!)

Turkey Trot - Thanksgiving day 5 miler, assuming I am in Austin for the holiday

December will be logging lots of long run miles - no racing!

Houston Marathon 1/15/12 - pending lottery results, sign up is 6/1 to enter the lottery drawing

3M Half Marathon 1/29/12 in Austin - if we don't get into the Houston Marathon, definitely doing the full half this year.  This is a great course.

Disney Princess Half Marathon in Orlando 2/26/12 - I really want to do this race and I think I convinced Jenna to join me for a girls weekend and run it together.  I also want to do the Goofy Challenge but realize I should get another marathon under my belt before attempting it.

Austin 10/20 4/15/12 - 10 miles, 20 stages of music at the Domain

First Swim of the Summer or Little J Gets Brave(r)

Took the kids to the pool this afternoon for G's first swim lesson.  Little J is already more comfortable than last year, thank goodness!

Tuesday Run: Time Trial

Warm up: .54 mile/10:33/mile
Lap 2: 1 mile/ 7:41/mile
Lap 3: 1 mile/7:53/mile
Lap 4: .91 mile/9:53/mile (supposed to be a cool down)

I had a weird dream last night that I was getting texted and could here the little horn on my phone.  At 2:30 I got up, thinking I can't have really heard it since I intentionally turned the volume off before I went to bed.  But I must have been getting a telepathic message from the Selfish Mommy, she did text to say she would not make our morning run.  I was sort of relieved.  1. because I was exhausted, 2. because she is moving and painting and doing all kinds of stuff this week and probably doesn't need to run.  When my alarm went off at 5:10 I ignored it.  Then started to feel bad, then started to feel like I should get up.  So I got out the door at 6am and did a quick speed workout.  It was about 75 degrees this morning - nasty - and I stayed in my neighborhood.

I think my goal this summer is to work on managing my pace, either fast or slow.

Deutschen Pfest Pfun Run or Medals are for Being Awesome

Poor planning on my part, I ate terrible on Saturday before the race.  Not the worst I've ever eaten, but not what I would prefer for race day preparation.

Sunday morning Jennifer picked me up and we drove the 5 miles over to the race start.  It was humid and almost 80 degrees at the start of the race.  They usually get about 200-300 for this race.  The course is mostly flat with a few hills mixed in.  In Pflugerville there is always a risk of WIND, but today wasn't too bad.  There were even a few spectators out to watch the race in the neighborhood.

We got up to the front and took off with the pack.  After the first mile I was struggling, I had to talk myself out of walking and made sure I kept my favorite songs in my ear.  I knew this wouldn't be a PR for me, I wasn't feeling it but wanted to push as much as I could.  I was able to finish strong, passing a guy puking on the side of the rode, who then sprinted past me 30 seconds later.

Mile 1: 7:23/mile
Mile 2: 7:43
Mile 3: 7:38
0.1: 6:50
Total time: 23:36

I was the 2nd female to finish and first in my age group!  YEAH!  I was glad that I pushed myself, 2nd and 3rd place were both within 30-45 seconds of me.

Next came the kids K.  Big J brought the kids down after the 5k and I got G ready to go.  In past years she has either been too shy (crying) or tired (I had to carry her), so this time she had to do the whole thing on her own 2 feet.  This year they let kids to a 1 block route or 2 blocks, we chose the 1 block and she was first for that group.  She ran most of it, and would sprint ahead of me every time I lagged behind her.  The volunteers held tape up over the finish line for the kids to break through and G got a medal, she was very excited.  Miss M was very jealous and upset to be left behind, so I guess she will be joining big sister for the Pflugerville Pfamiily Pfun Run in October.

We had pizza and beer (for me) at the finish and hung around for the awards.  G asked me what I was getting an award for, and I told her people get awards for being AWESOME!  Big J and Jeff pointed out that I was being a little immodest.  But hey - it was awesome!

Disney On Ice or The Princesses Will Assume Control

To start, sometimes my phone takes terrible pictures, this is one of those times.  A few weeks ago I took the girls to see Disney On Ice: Princess Wishes.  It was magical, delightful, scary and really fun for the girls.  They got candy and Mommy had a beer, all was well with the world.  The show was good and featured every princess that white little girls like.  After the show ended I told the girls to sit for a minute so I wouldn't have to fight the crowd all the way to the other side of the building where I parked.  Of course G announces she has to potty - urgently.  Miss M did not appreciate the sudden change of direction and threw a fit.  By the time we got to the bathroom I'm pretty sure she had no idea why she was hysterical.  I got condolences from other mothers as they told their children to avert their eyes.  Luckily G made it to the potty and Miss M was able to pull herself together.  We left the Cedar Park Center pretending to skate across the parking lot.  Success!

I think this is candy face

Yeah for princesses!

Little Dancers or The Family Dance Off

Sunday was G and Miss M's dance recital for Kinderdance.  This was G's 3rd stage performance and she did awesome.  This was a big change from last year when we had to beg and bribe her to get on stage and she spent most of the performance pulling her tutu up and down.  G knew all the steps, remembered to smile and seemed to really enjoy herself.

This was MIss M's first performance.  We had low expectations because when John attended parent watch day last week she hardly danced at all.  For the recital Miss M was the only toddler, so instead of having her dance by herself they let her go up with the older girls.  She danced right next to G and followed along.  She didn't know any of the songs but happily watched the teacher.  After the ballet portion, the older girls put on their tap shoes.  M doesn't take tap, but the teacher found her a pair of shoes and M happily put them on.  She was so cute jumping up and down and clapping for herself.

Afterward both girls got medals and flowers.  We celebrated with Popsicles at home.  Little J enjoyed watching the girls but had no interest in joining them on stage.

Mother's Day

I had a great Mother's Day weekend.  Early this week I asked John if instead of a gift, I could go shopping, sans children, and buy myself some clothes.  Jenna went with me to the outlet malls.  I asked her to please keep me from buying anything unflattering.  We had much fun quoting "Sassy Gay Friend" and I let her pick out clothes for me.  I got some new pants, shorts, sports bras and a couple shirts.  She only yelled at me a few times, once when I put back on my clothes from home and she said my shorts were terrible (WHAT, WHAT, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?).  Then we went to Chuy's for lunch where I enjoyed a Mexican Martini and sat there eating chips and salsa for an hour.  So nice not to cut up anybody's food or worry that someone is going to cry during the meal.

Sunday John let me sleep in until 8am (yeah!) and made me pancakes and eggs for breakfast.  The kids picked out a beautiful azalea tree for me (thanks John).  Gwen made me a bracelet at school and the twins made me cards.  We went to the park and then to Rudy's for lunch.  GREAT DAY!

Now I'm off to Seattle for a work trip and I will miss my family so much, really!

I hope you all had a wonderful Mother's Day too!

Hit Me Baby...

One more time.  It's time for another marathon.  I've been thinking about it for awhile, and somehow suckered the Selfish Mommy into joining me, and my Seeter wants another go at 26.2.  We are planning to enter the lottery for the Houston Marathon in January.  Houston is one of the only marathons besides New York that has a lottery and has great reviews.  If we get it - yeah!  If not we will look at other marathons within driving distance.

I also want to do a Disney race in the next year - 18 months.  I'm not sure how I got this bug but I am convinced this is a great idea.

I'm also working on a new 101 in 1001 list.  These running goals will be on the list:
Run another marathon
Run a race at Disney World
Qualify for Boston (maybe more like a 5 year goal)
